SKILLS TRAINING BREAKDOWN

BALL HANDLING

  • Introduction to static and dynamic single ball dribbling drills
  • Introduction to static and dynamic (2) ball drills for advanced players
  • How to attack and set up your defender
  • Understanding, reading defensive pressure and how to attack it.  Change of speed, change of direction

SHOOTING

  • Shooting off the catch, shooting off the catch in transition
  • Shooting off the dribble, shooting off the dribble in transition
  • Shooting off the dribble and understanding separation from defender (advanced players)
  • Learning and understanding shot pocket, toe dig, and release point
  • Introduction to jump pivot (advanced players)
  • Introduction to post moves and footwork, reading defensive pressure.  (Guards and forwards)

DEFENSE

  • Man to Man defense, understanding ball defense, understanding deny defense, understanding help defense
  • Ball-You-Man principles in a dynamic setting
  • Defensive stance and footwork
  • Defending the post (all positions - guards and forwards)
  • Box out techniques and drills

3 ON 3 AND 4 ON 4 GAMES

  • Games will be viewed and graded on skills which were acquired through the individual drills throughout the week
  • Individual evaluation sheets will be issued to players in several categories in respect to college projextion upon completion of camp

DON HAMPTON

 

 

Don Hampton has been coaching basketball for 17 years. He has coached at the National level of AAU for 15 years.  Jersey Sting teams coached by Don have won National Championship, finished 9th, 7th, 8th, 12th and 14th  in the Nation in the girls division. His most recent senior group of AAU girls team won seven (7) straight STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS, an accomplishment that had never been done in the state of New Jersey. While coaching the boys AAU national teams with the Central Jersey Hawks, they finished 2nd in the state 3 times and finished 14th, 12th and 24th in the nation.

Don has been instrumental in plaing over 30 players in Division 1 Basketball, both boys and girls.  He has had (1) NBA player, Andrew Bynum of the Los Angeles Lakers play for him for three (3) years.  He has served as an assistant coach for the boy's varsity basketball program at Colts Neck High School for six (6) years.  Don has been coaching skills training at the junior high, high school and collegiate and professional level for the past three (3) years using the NBA player development series for offensive skills.
